Two customers who completed orders with DDNZ in July came back in September. The customer in Türkiye ordered another 20,000 pieces; the customer in Kazakhstan ordered 130,000. Both purchases were for iPhone 13–16 privacy tempered-glass screen protectors.

For us, the encouraging part is that both buyers chose to order again. The next step is to get the right model mix to each customer at a cost and delivery date that works for their business.

Türkiye: 20,000 pieces and the cost of air freight

Our supply price for this order is below US$1 per piece. In the local retail market, this URUCHI privacy screen protector on Amazon Türkiye, sold with an installation kit, was listed at TRY249.90 on 22 September.

That is about US$5.12, using the ECB’s 21 September TRY and USD reference rates. To compare costs, assume equivalent product specifications and one protector per box:

ItemPer piece
Amazon Türkiye retail referenceTRY249.90 / about US$5.12
Product cost budgetUS$1.00
Estimated air freightUS$0.50
Balance before other costsAbout US$3.62

A retailer still needs to cover taxes, import charges, selling fees, local delivery and returns from that balance. A distributor selling to shops should use its wholesale selling price in the calculation. The actual margin depends on those costs and the price the buyer receives.

For 20,000 boxes, the estimated freight comes to US$10,000. Using the 1,400kg shipment-weight assumption, that works out to about US$7.14/kg. These figures assume one protector per box.

Air freight is worth pricing when a buyer needs stock sooner. The decision is whether the extra freight cost makes sense for the buyer’s sales and stock levels.

Kazakhstan: planning a 130,000-piece reorder

At this volume, we would work back from the date the customer needs the stock. The iPhone model quantities, retail packaging and factory completion date all need to be settled early enough to leave time for transport and clearance.

For a Kazakhstan importer, that means comparing complete routes. Kazakhstan is landlocked, so a sea-freight proposal also needs an inland leg. Road, rail and sea-plus-inland quotes should include the journey through to the delivery city.

A larger order gives the buyer more stock to manage. Ordering ahead allows time to compare transport costs and arrange customs clearance before the goods arrive. The extra time also lets the buyer confirm quantities for each iPhone model before production.

Both customers returned after their July purchases. We want the next order to give them a reason to come back again.
